Now TV really will rot your brain

9 Dec

In case you missed the tweet about it yesterday – we just thought you’d like to know that a couple of researchers in Japan have finally invented a way to take that boring 90 seconds you stand around waiting for your frozen macaroni to heat up, and make it fun!

With the Cast Oven – as with anything these days – that “fun” basically translates to “visually stimulating.” These guys embedded a screen in the front of the device that plays a YouTube clip as long as the cooking time. Because, as Gizmodo puts it, “God knows you can’t go two goddamned minutes without being entertained.”

And they’re right. First people got the bright idea to play video content in elevators, then taxicabs, then public restrooms – so why not our own kitchen? Any potential downtime human beings have should be spent staring at a video screen. Bonus points if the screen they are standing front of will also give them brain cancer!

Huzzah, Japanese science! You’ve done it again!
